I know.. once again, I’ve been MIA.. but with being in the center of a hurricane (literally) and weather the storm of the current election.. our priorities have changed and we had to devote our attentions to something way more important.

I’m POSITIVE that the people in Staten Island would have thought I was crazy too before October 30th.
… so yesterday at about 12:45pm, I’m sitting in my bedroom playing around on the laptop.. doing laundry.. whatever.. when I started hearing these BOOMs.
At first I thought it was a big pile driver outside my house.. there’s been a lot of road work being done by the borough, the public transportation company and at the cemetery down the block so I really didn’t think too much of it.
But then it kept happening..
Boom!
After about the 7th or 8th time, I got up and checked outside but didn’t see anything so I went back to doing what I was doing.
About 15 minutes late, my cell rang and it was Chief.
HIM: Do you hear that?
ME: Yea.. what is it?
HIM: The propane company is exploding!! You should see the fireballs in the sky!!
ME: OMG!!! Do you want me to come down????
HIM: Yea!! It’s amazing!!
I did tell you we were idiots, right? Not the sharpest knives in the drawer or brightest crayons in the box?? Cuz, yknow.. if we WERE then why the HELL would I jump up.. rush out of the house.. DRIVE down to the store only to get caught in traffic because they’re closing roads left and right.. park the car halfway to the store.. walk the rest of the way.. find Chief at the intersection of our street and the main street and watch at black smoke pluming in the air along with breathing in probably toxic gases?
Have I mentioned that my house is less then a mile from the propane company (they also store oxygen and the gas that you weld with) and the store is even closer?
We’re idiots.

With really nothing to see and honestly, too much to smell, I headed home and Chief headed back to the store. His cousin started texting me information because she has a police scanner app on her iPhone and she was home by herself she was texting me with info like.. every 30 seconds. It’s good to have cousin’s with police scanner iPhone apps!!!
Apparently, this was more then a little dangerous and about 2 hours later, they started evacuating houses and business in a 1000 yard radius which meant, guess what? The deli was getting MOBBED!!
Both (No Longer) Weed and Bubba were right along side slinging meat and ringing people out. They were RAPING the shelves because no one really knew what was going to happen or how long they were going to have to sit at the emergency shelter.
Right in the middle of it, the Fire Marshall came into the store and told Chief to shut down. They had extended the evacuation zone to 3000 yards and that put the store right in the middle.
Everybody had to leave.
At that point, he had already hit the average for the day and if allowed to remain open probably would have doubled the receipts but what are you going to do?
We didn’t have to evacuate the house.. but they did evacuate to the middle of our street so that was a good thing. Bubba was out with his friends.. Spaz had his first day of school.. and Chief was home. With me. No kids. Hubba Hubba.
Hey.. you gotta get when you can get it, yknow?
But in all seriousness.. if one of the bigger tanks had exploded, it would have been colossal. So far I heard there were two injuries. One bad, the other not so bad. Considering that the company is right next door to a public produce wholesaler that is ALWAYS mobbed.. on a road that is ALWAYS CONJESTED.. it could have been so much worse.
